So yesterday upon walking out of the WIERD's front door into the world, the rather sadly abject and always eminently empty vacant lot next to my house had an 'Eviction' notice on it...it was truly a perplexing site and I think radically contemporary as one might say... As if this wasn't already enough of a philosophical conundrum to confuse the WIERD for daze, a few hours later at the US Open I learned that a dozen or so major corporations are buying out entire lots of tickets for their employees, nearly all of whom are not showing up due to the intense heat, yet the seats are all sold, and remained 'reserved' - awkwardly sitting alone awaiting a body...so(like the doubly evacuated 'abstraction' of Real estate next to my house) the most highly attended event of public sport in the world is now also left with the cold VRleasures of the contemporary world - everything is sold out, but noone is there...Very Rare.
On that as always delerio-crypto-abymsmalian note of Apocryphial wonder, tonite the battle against abstraction via the pleasures of the flesh and electricity continue at the WIERD weekly party yesss! A few weeks ago we were beyond spolied by when the great British cold guitar master Mark Burgess blew the roof off the fukin place, and tonite we are undoubtedly in for another amazing evening as we welcome absolutely legendary BETTINA KOSTER for a live performance at midnite! Along with the likes of Matthias Schuster, Blixa Bargeld, and Gudrun Gut, since founding her incredible group MALARIA! Bettina has been one of the truly seminal figures in German Post-Punk and Experimental Electronic/Industrial music since the late 70s, and the opportunity to see her perform in such an intimate WIERD World is certainly a rarity. This evening Bettina will be performing a new series of songs from her recently released 'Queen of Noise' LP for your frozen hot pleasure...see you all in the WIERD tonite...VRp.

Tonite will be a very special evening in the WIERD World, as it is my pleasure to welcome the man who's music has long been a true inspiration - and quite simply one of my musical heroes for as long as I, and I know many of you can remember - MARK BURGESS of The Chameleons for a live performance at midnite! For anyone who has ever wondered what it may have been like to see The Chameleons in the viscerally-alive, tiny intimate confines of the likes of Rafters Club in Manchester circa 1982, this is the closest you'll ever get...needless to say a Very Rare evening lies ahead indeed. Doors will open for tonite's show at 10pm, admission is $10, get there early if you want to get in.
Just a last reminder, and after tonite it only seems quite appropriate that WIERD will be taking a much needed 2 week break beginning next week to revive for the fall concert season, and we will return on Wed. August 25th with the Cosmetics from Vancouver live. In our absense however I wanted to encourage you all to support the debut effort of the new Dynamo Collective's innaugural show next Wed. So this morning the WIERD awakens and the only thing in its IN box was an email from a rather enthusiastic and ambitious young Nigerian guy called Mambooja who was writing to inform me I was the heir to 800 million dollars. Of course as always I promptly hit 'reply' to Mambooja and turns out the email was a 'norely@'address, no viruses, malware, just a simple email...rather brilliant I would say. In fact this may be the ultimate act of abstract art in 2010 - one of truly 'representing' the 'presense of' the internet...almost 'humanizing' it in fact - not in the 'humanistic' sense, but rather in the sense of the 'corporealizing' the big abstract nothing out there as a glowing, ephemeral, personified presense across from you a la Jackson Pollack in '47 with a drunken pleasure-seeking middle finger proudly raised at your sad, sober flesh and bloody ass...laughing and scoffing with frozen cold pleasure as YOU nervously cower in confusion...where did the world go, who are YOU???...Very Rare.
And while YOU're sitting there in all your neurotically isolated emptyness, YOU better get your shit together as YOU are playing tonite at WIERD...get yourself a band, some gear, and send some stupid little emails no one will read if you want any of your so-called 'friends' to show up and watch you suffer under the fog and the lights...its gonna be a good one tonite YOU're new trax are killer and the new album is amazing, even though YOU haven't made IT yet, or did YOU?...The amazing young Blind Prophet is watching, follow her on...see you all this evening.

Well after that inTENSE Texas Tornado blew through the WIERD World last week seems safe to say heat-seeking hedonistic summer pleasure is the theme of the moment, and tonite it undoubtedly continues as we're proud to welcome back our forever beloved heroes of the dark and dirty, psychedelic electronic night LED ER EST for a live performance at midnight! The young alien gentlemen from the planet of Orange just released a killer new split LP on the always excellent Mannequin Records label in Rome, Italy and will be debuting these new trax for the first time including the neon beaming floor-torcher 'Lonesome XOXO' as well as those off their Captured trax 7" including the icily brittle tear-jerker 'Man and Tree'...The CT7 trax appear on the new CD version of 'Dust On Common' just out on the WIERD and we have a ton of copies of the new Italian LP just in, should be up on the wierdsite few dazzze...so come on down to our lovely little echo chamber tonite where the ('world') remains forever in parentheses thank god, and hearem all alive in the flesh, yesss...VR. http://www.myspace.com/lederest

Well it was only a matter of time til the frail gods of minimal electronics took a lovely little tea break to make way for the return of the repressed - and the wild WIERD winds of the sounds of EBM's past reared their virile heads and came back to VRome Sweet Home...and indeed tonite we're inordinately pleased to finally welcome the weekly party debut of TENSE from the dusty cold plains of Houston, Texas for a live performance of heat seeking Electronic Body Music at midnight! Many of you saw Mariana tear the place up with her minimal synth project Medio Mutante last month, so won't you all please join us this evening to have a naughty little look at the dark and dirty flipside of the same Wax Trax-encrusted coin as she is joined on stage by bandmates Robert and Jake Shrock to bring the nastily fierce testerone fueled leather-manly pleasures! Tonite WIERD proudly welcomes SOLVENT from dark synth Toronto for a live performance of minimal electronic music at midnight! Finally this gig is goin down as we've tried to get the great Jason Amm several times over the past few years and our not so Very Rare neighbors to the mountie-VRatrolled North certainly don't make it easy for Canadian artists to spread the cold sounds. Needless to say tonite will be quite special indeed as Jason will be debuting a whole new set of trax off his first new LP in 6 years 'Subject to Shift' out on the Ghostly International label, and what a record it is. Intensely coagulating the many and varying traditions of late EBM and industrial early acid techno and classic minimal synth, 'Subject' is the darkest Solvent effort yet, can't wait to hear these songs live! Andrew P. just sent over a great interview with Jason just up over at Self-Titled check it out below. Really hope everyone can make it out for this one god knows when we'll be fortunate enough to get our faces shredded and internally cleansed and wiped blank by the wild winds of Ontario again...VR.

I'm very happy to say the cover art and tracklists are now up on the site for the next two Wierd Records releases - the debut albums from our long time friends Frank(just Frank) from France and Automelodi from Montreal due for release July 6th and 13th respectively. These two records have been a long time coming, can't wait to play them for the world next month! In other rather sad news of the WIERD I wanted to ask you all to take a moment of silence (Silence on-line is my new fave thing, btw...VR) for our beloved WIERD family fog machine MISTY who some of you may have noticed passed away into the ether at long last last Wed. at precisely 11:36 pm. I am also truly sorry to make you all see each other in the WIERD World for the last 4 hours of the party...horrible, I swear on the froide gods abstract graves I promise it will never happen again, WIERD is NOT reality, none of you really exist and this is all a dream you never wanted to have really I swear...and yes its still goin rest assured...so until I finish my long awaited architectuo-historical manifesto on the VRadical relationship between fog machines and the internal conceptual dissolution of all architecture itself, the memory of 'the real' setting it last week will simply plague you all forever...Rest assured however everyone, Misty's eminently virile younger sister arrived from Northern France yesterday and shes ready for pleasure tonite. Unlike Misty rumours have it she's ravenously heterosexual, but with the monstrous pressures inherent in my bringing her out of the closet each and every week I have a feeling that may be quite a lot to handle for someone her age, so we'll see how she does this evening...then again she will be doing quite a bit of 'blowing' so uh hmmm, complicated so that means she...where are my brilliant queer theory VRiends when I need them help(!)...alas and a loss for words as always...RIP language yesss, long live the brouillard definitif!!!

Alright WIERDos listen up! Tonite is her VRexxxcellency Pre-Op Trans's Birthday and I promised her she could have whatever the fuck she wanted this year no questions asked. Unfortunately all of NYC is sold out of those tiny fluffy pink cupcakes she likes, so her second choice was GENDER REASSIGNMENT SURGERY FOR EVERYONE live at the party...doesn't seem so much to ask right, everyone cool with that? Obviously it goes without saying theres only one master who can manhandle the pleasures of a sonic assault of such VRagnitude, so we're bringin in the man himself Mr. Martial Canterel tonite for a live performance of mass genital panic at midnite! Get there early, and check your panties and chastity belts at the door. And just to confirm yes duct tape will be provided by Ms. Shadow for your wrists and face...how wonderful everyone will awaken to face a lovely 'new world' tomorrow, oooh excellent!...VR. http://www.myspace.com/martialcanterel

In other news of the WIERD, a new mix I am quite happy with I must say is up over at the great Self-Titled Magazine website. Tonite Wierd welcomes the weekly party debut of Medio Mutante from Texas for a live performance at midnight! Mariana, Seth and José are part of a slowly growing great new dusty synth/wave scene thats been festering up down in frozen hot Houston for quite some time that includes the likes of Tense, Twisted Wires and Indian Jewelry and MM shows in NYC are certainly a rarity indeed. Unlike few other new, young bands MM tap into the Very Rare sound of classic Spanish minimal electronics from the likes of the greats Aviador Dro, Liaisons Dangereuses, Los Iniciados, or Oviformia Sci and have a killer, cold aggressive sound quite their own at the moment! Also tonite Mr. Canterel makes a long-overdue drive-by-WIERDing in the jag for one of his high-end-heavy-lo-fi-fuck-all DJ sets...doesn't get any dark and lusty than this. This evening's WIERD is for everyone who has seriously considered the obvious fact that the unzipped fly is the new male cleavage for the 21st century. 'That being said'(BTW this is my VRave new abstracto-condescendio on-line 'expression' presupposing you're simply not capable of reading what 'was just said' half a fuking inch above this...)...obviously the unzipped female fly is the new......oh wait actually I have to think about this...wait double-cleavage negates itself and thus it...uhg man!...calm down deep breath...more next week...VR.
Speaking of 'Unzipping' as allegorical gender-transference though, and on a more serious note - tonite's WIERD will be a truly Very Rare evening indeed as we once again put aside the cold synthetic sounds for a new installment of the 'Wierd Presents:' new performance art series live on stage! This evening WIERD is proud to present the VRorld premier of a new piece entitled "The s-eXXXorcist" by XXPLXT ANGYL and the Sickness! Perhaps something I can only imagine as a gender-dysphoric lovechild of Chris Burden and Marina Abramovic or better yet Sir Grace Jones magically implanted with the Vaginally-Dentatanated ego of George's Bush turned against itself, The explosive Antino Angel has been elusively lurking in the shadows of the party the past few weeks, crucifix-adorned, razor-sharp double dong in hand...gathering energy...and ready to strike...himself! This evening's auto-erotically sacrilegious, post-feminist('literally' in this case for once...VR) piece will present the young Angel's body as an eminently fertile battlefield in which the various warring factions have it out once and for all, and Antino's internal spokeswoman has asked the WIERD to inform you all that it has indeed been decided that the loser will receive the appropriate punishment. Two trailers for the piece are available courtesy of filmmaker Jeff Elstone...This will be a WIERD you will not forget. :

Tonite WIERD welcomes the weekly party debut of BLANK DOGS for a live performance at midnight! The great Mr. Sniper has long been a generous supporter of the WIERD World, and tonite should be quite a Very Rarity indeed, as I'm told by the man himself, whos lo-fi electronic sound has inspired countless Brooklyn bands the past couple years, that his new songs have changed a bit in frozen hot elevation, and tonite he'll be debuting a whole new set of trax off the new BD album...so slide on in on the lovely spring ice...and watch the Lo-Fi get HIGH! yeaaah...VR.

Alright everyone(forget the VR fact that sound can never literally exist IN extension and) 'listen UP', as tonites definitely going to be an absolute dark and dirty oldschool WIERD mess as we're inordinately excited to welcome THROAT for their weekly party debut live performance at midnight! Throat is the brand new dark synth supergroup cuhgmposed of the every lovely teen queen of the NYC death industrial scene Ms. Margaret Chardiet aka Pharmakon and his young, elusive VRajesty M. Ryan Woodhall of the ever pissed and furious Yellow Tears! If you tragically missed out on the likes of a copy of Pharmakon's long sold out terrifying debut on Bloodlust last year, or the recent Yellow Tears show two weeks ago at the Whitney Museum, stumble on down tonite and get punished with analogue electronic pleasure for your beloved naivete, and get a little key to the gateway that is the Far Rockaway, Queen's crews' killer venue 'Red Light District', which is nearly single handedly keeing the NYC noise scene alive in 2010. Take it from this old grumpy bitch whose been around the block too many times in that world, the trax and line-ups coming out of this cold kingdom of late are clearly on the way to approaching the legendary status only a few other US industrial scenes post 2000 have achieved such as Ryan Jenck's great Terminal in Oakland, CA and the pathos-fueld sleazy grandma in heat of them all - the great Greh Holger's Behind the Green Door Club in Detroit. Needless to say head for the red before we're all dead! http://www.yellowtears.com/ http://www.myspace.com/noisepharmakon
tonite the WIERD European Tour 2010 rolls into Brussels, Belgium tonight for the 'KRAAK Presents:' party at De Bunker! Lastly I'd like to leave you by saying this week's WIERD is officially dedicated to everyone under 21 who is nostalgic for the 80s...OK everyone go talk amonst yourselves and we will all reconvene to discuss this beyond apocryphal notion next week, its simply far too complicated to deal with right now...See you all on tour or tonite in the WIERD World :)

This weeks WIERD is in honor of everyone who enjoys troubleshooting' when there is nothing wrong...also known to those of us who enjoy the hobbyistic pleasures of 'A-Mature' psychoanalysis 101...pathos. Or perhaps more luxuriously...sucking ones thumb...ahhh... :)
And speaking of the Very Rare pleasures of the famously underaVReciated thumb, the phonetico-corporeal articulation of tonite's performers simply could not occur without one - as WIERD is proud to present the NYC live debut of CLAPS from Minneapolis for a live performance at midnight!!! Along with the likes of YOU and Moon Patrol, Claps are one of the best new minimal synth bands from the frozen, dusty ice planes of the midwest and evidence the analog electronic infection is slowly seeping west. I highly encourage everyone to check out their fantastic debut CDep just released on the Guilt Ridden Pop label, we have copies available in the WIERDshop, and the band will have them for sale this evening, their trax 'Fold' and 'Fireworks' are 2 of the best of 2010 thus far, come on down to hear them alive and colder than ever tonite! www.myspace.com/clapsus
Otherwise this past I was happy to receive word Home Sweet Home will officially be getting a major facelift and a proper new soundsystem installed at long last. The club is midway through the transition over to the new PA tonite which will be up and on fire in 2 weeks.
Lastly and very importantly many of you may have heard the great Market Hotel was sadly shut down this past weekend and in the interim, Friday evening's 'Wierd Presents:' show featuring live performances by Xeno & Oaklander, Led Er Est, Claps, and Epee du Bois has been moved to Monster Island in Williamsburg(128 River St. at Metropolitan Ave.). This will be a sendoff party for X&O and LeEst who will both be off on a 3 week European tour beginning next Tuesday in London and finishing 3 weeks later in Rome, hope everyone can make it out to wish them well on the VRourney ahead. This is the first full-scale WIERD tour, many years in the making...needless to say...VR.
