The summer in NYC is certainly shaping up to be WIERDer than ever as along with the WIERD Presents: Tamaryn and Religious to Damn show at The Annex on Thursday night June 4th(details in the calendar below), we have also just confirmed another excellent event in July:

Also I wanted to encourage everyone to come out to this very exciting event in which Miss Liz from Xeno & Oaklander will present a whole new series of her 16mm film works in two weeks!:

COLD CINEMA: FILMS BY LIZ WENDELBO
'Opticks I - XIV'
2008, 3 minutes x 14, 16mm, color and bw, sound. Editing by Taylor Thompson; music by Sean McBride (Martial Canterel /Xeno & Oaklander); performances by Brandi Hudson, Elissa Santiago.

Born in the dark era that is the new millennium in New York City, the 'Cold Cinema' of Liz Wendelbo is a return to analogue film. Originating from the NYC Minimal Electronics music scene (Xeno & Oaklander), Liz Wendelbo engages in a form of filmmaking that predicates resistance to cinema as a virtual medium. Her latest work is a series of short three-minute films entitled 'Opticks'. Her films explore themes of darkness, rituals, Gothic iconography and film as a medium, with melancholy and restraint. With a fondness for obsolete technology, she uses 16mm and double 8 as her shooting medium of choice, in color and black and white. 'Opticks' is structured in a modular way: the short films are numbered one through fourteen and are interchangeable. Three sections surface overall the abstract optical experiments of the 'Maxwell Tartan Ribbon' series (A 19th century Scottish physicist, Maxwell projected the first color photograph using Newton's color theory in 1861 - the image was a tartan ribbon); the dance and movement based Gothic Rituals series; and the 'film-as-historical document' framework of World War II, industrial and personal found footage of the 'Excavation' and 'Columns' series.

Total running time: ca. 50 minutes
- Saturday, May 23rd at 7:30.

Lastly I wanted to remind everyone of the very special event at the weeklyParty next Wednesday as WIERD will play host to the unofficial No Fun Fest 2009 Pre-Party featuring live performances by R. Jencks(Oakland, CA - Sixes, Deathroes, Ex-Crash Worship), Hive Mind(Ann Arbor, MI), Envenomist(Columbus, OH), and our own Martial Canterel...This event will be $5 at the door until 1am, all $ goes to the bands which have travelled a combined total of over 5000 miles to enter the WIERD world, I hope everyone will come out and support this what should certainly be quite an amazing evening for brutally dark and hedonistic analogue electronic music unlike any other! http://www.nofunfest.com/2009.html

This week WIERD proudly welcomes the return of our beloved, eminently restrained and suspiciously refined in-house international playboy of the typographically precise night N. ANTOLIK for a live performance at midnight! One of the newest enigmatic artists oft spotted lurking and sardonically smirking off in the cold WIERD latenight shadows, rumor has it Mr. N. has built up a entirely new arsenal of trax since his last WIERD gig, and if his killer track 'Miniscule' we debuted on the WIERD Records Radio Special on EVR a few weeks ago was any indication, it sould be quite an intense evening indeed...hope to see everyone out tomorrow night!

I might also add BTW that N. is now officially less VR than he was a few weeks ago as he has just taken the plunge into the ether-world of Post-Everything Abstraction, so please go pay this lovely young WIERDo a visit and send him your fiercest dark synth spam all week long...VR!!!: http://www.myspace.com/nantolik
