WIERD Presents a very rare performance by PHARMAKON!

Wednesday, February 23rd, 2011

Tonite WIERD proudly welcomes the long-overdue VReturn of our good friend the terrifyingly lovely PHARMAKON(aka Margaret Chardiet) for live performance at midnight! Margaret's concert in the WIERD World last year stirred up the deeply-seeded and archetypally-entrenched nuggets of seethingly black pathos in us all...born in the bowels of taboo pleasure, up through the stomach, and expelled from the various orifices - only to hover in front of your quivering, frozen face for a 12 minute tighrope walk of intensity - that thing you try to forget, but stares you in the face, obsessing you to the point of...(ugh lets change the fukin subject I can't deal with that it was horrible...). Beyond the wild world of heat-seeking industrial electronics, deriving from the ancient Greek, Pharmakon denotes both a 'remedy' and a 'poison' and as such has forever posed a quandry for translators from Plato to Kant to Nietzsche to Derrida - coming as thus to elusively represent the essence of 'Indeterminacy' itself...the uncontrollable inner nature of all things and meanings in the world...and the love/hate relationship you have with yourself. So come on out and let Margaret purge you of your privately-protected poison, only to leave you realizing it was all you had left, without it you're nothing. Pharmakon is just one among many of a tightly knit community of brilliant young artists in the highly -regarded RED LIGHT DISTRICT in Far Rockaway Queens, which also includes the likes of Yellow Tears, Throat, Halflings, Hands Rendered Useless, Teeny Bopper, Tension Fields, Cowards, Boytoyz, John Mannion, Vellum, Stroma, Cathode Terror Secretion, and Diaphragm being only the tip of the boiling iceberg...a potent solid scene that has been slowly and carefully forming the past few years, and one which has become in the WIERD's VRopinion one of the true hopes for the future of industrial noise in the US.

This weekend Brandon Stosuy will curate an excellent 'Mirror Me' event at The Red Light featuring performances and work from Peter Sotos, Mark McCoy, Yellow Tears, Pharmakon, Lionel Maunz and DJ Pieter VR. This one is worth the journey to the desolate latenight beach at the end of the world I assure you...the pleasure of the Red Lights await... http://rockawayredlight.blogspot.com/
