Late last fall a mysterious transluscent purple cassette tape with 'The Dawn' scrawled into its brittle, invisible skin appeared in the WIERD's life courtesy of the always lovely Ms. Gabby E. that immediately found its way apparently permanently lodged in my car stereo where it remained wickedly blistering my mind day after day for months, and stands as one of the most solidly electrifying demos in recent memory. And this week WIERD is proud to welcome the NYC debut of LOST TRIBE from Richmond, Virginia for a live performance at midnite! Shravan and co. take the finest elements of classic Crust, UK positive punk or early Killing Joke and undercut it with a few shots of the live anarchic viscerality of Discharge if the guitars were filtered through the nastily trapped-under-ice claustrophobic FX of the French Cold Wave World...this band fukin rules, come feel em let it rip you'll love it, you'll lose it, and you deserve IT. This evening we're bringin in the extra guitar/wave-heavy artillery as we welcome the debut guest DJ appearance of our beloved, infamous hero Mr. Mike Obrien who will be joining Glenn and Frankie on the raggedly tetanus-infested wheels of the WIERD. This is gonna be a good one, join the Tribe or die!

Tonite WIERD welcomes back our forever VReloved friend the inimitable EPEE DU BOIS for a live demonstration of maximal electronic music at midnite! Cheyney has been kind enough to take an evening off following his literally explosive show in Tokyo last month and in lieu of his forthcoming exhibition in Naples, Italy in a few weeks to drop a few speculatively real jewels off of his amazingly Very Rare Open Water K7 on Living Tapes in Los Angeles from last year. Come on down and see Epee represent...everything but himself in classic early modernist, fantastically 'Misery'-ish fashion - as a certain infamous, organicly synthetic masterpiece on the WIERD Compilation Volume II once elusively described...VR.

The WIERD is eminently excited for this week's performance which has been in the planning stages for many months. As you all know with all the recent VRevolutions in birth control ITs uh oh...Its that day of the year - ANAREXIA'S BIRTHDAY PARTY!!! Our fantastically-abusive nasty Queen mother demands 'top' quality(ouch!) entertainment or we're all fucked(literally, ow stop!), and needless to say WIERD's got just the thing...mmmm hmmm. And, on a dare I say on a more serious note - let me exxxplain...

Week after week the WIERD has found ITself ending up without fail IT seems, at a certain Very Rare ultra-depraved and incredibly alive latenight Sunday party on a certain desolate, run-down block of Bk to witness some of the most intensely energized, wildly explosive, and epicly complex theatrical performances I've simply ever seen honestly, in what I can confidently say is perhaps the best kept secret in NYC performance art, modern dance, and nightlife. All rolled into one.

With this in mind, it is truly with pleasure that I welcome the WIERD weekly party debut of The BACKSPACE PERFORMANCE ENSEMBLE for a new multi-media dance performance extravaganza entitled "Here Come the Girls" live at midnite! I'd like to be able to try and quickly give you all an idea of exactly what to expect this wednesday, but any attempt is doomed, these kids are beyond. And honestly, they give me hope in every way. I thought the wonders of worlds as spontaneously imaginative as this dissappeared forever with the demise of the legendary Blacklips Performance Cult eons ago, or did it? Suffice it to say in my best attempt: their ever-charismatic leader the inordinately elusive Krystal Something Something and his company of 7 dancers take the refined, eroticized compositional restraint of a young Michael Clark, combine it with the Gender sur-realdysphoric visual aesthetics of Leigh Bowery in the mature d'Offay window-era days, send it back to an early 70s all-star writers love-in between Rowan and Martin, The Pythons and "Phantom of Paradise"-era Brian DePalma and spritz it with a little Warholian-laced abjecto-elixir from the late 60s Factory Nights and you've got this seethingly wonderful, anarchic beast. Without furthur ad-ew..."Here Come the Girls"...see you all in the WIERD World tomorrow evening!

Tonite WIERD will be quite an intensely sensitized World of Very Rare musical brilliance unlike few ever in the party's history. This evening we are proud to welcome FIELDED from Chicago, along with the US debut of KISS THE ANUS OF A BLACK CAT from Belgium, all backed by our beloved friend, guest DJ Samhain from Cologne, Germany - aka Mr. Marc Schulte of the legendary long-running Nacht und Sodom compilation series!

Fielded is the solo project of the lovely, elusive chanteuse proper Ms. Lindsay Powell. Combining carefully crafted and manipulated dark ambient electronics with an absolutely soaring voice that summons the canon of scintillating Femme VRatales past such as Vashti Bunyan, Nico, Rose McDowall, and a young Björk, we've heard the chill-inducing factor of Lindsay's visceral presence has triggered mass icicular-stalactite formations on the bases of entire audience's spinal columns throughout the first leg of her current US tour - get ready to shiver, snap off and be forever cast over the cliff into oblivion. And as if thats not enough - Hailing from Gent, BE the amazing KTAOABC take their ominous moniker from an obscure medieval witch ritual, they're truly one of the most powerful real deal European neo-folk acts out there right now in the classic lineage of the likes of Comus to Angus Maclise to Current 93 to Woven Hands...this ones gonna be a beast!

KTAOABC will be on at midnite, Fielded at 12:30. Please be on time or expect to be on yr knees wipin up your frozen, frigid tears with second-hand tranny sweat, the lovely ladies are waiting for you young man, mmm hmm! See you all in the wonderfully warm WIERD womb tonite!...yessss...

This week WIERD proudly welcomes Tôg for a live performance at midnite! Hailing from Bergen, Norway this fantastic 7 piece dark synth outfit has been making some serious cold waved mania of late up in the Fjord-encrusted Norsk synth world, as their 1st single 'Sansen' spent a good part of 2010 on the Norwegian pop charts. More info is below on Bill P. from Brooklyn Vegan's feature on the band yesterday, come on down tonite to feel the pleasures of what the world that brought the darkest guitar driven black metal music of the last 20 years does with a big pile of cold synths...and how the hell we're gonna fit 7 artists on the WIERD stage, its gonna be a great one!

Tonite WIERD proudly welcomes the weekly party debut of HUMANBEAST from Providence, RI! Combining the perversely restrained pleasures of latenight bondage taboos with a soundtrack merging luxuriously juicy death industrial and the light flourishes of classic minimal synth, the VRynamic duo of Maralie and Eli create a world that is quite impossible to describe. And from what the WIERD hears this is just the brittle tip of the frozen hot iceberg emerging out of the newly energized Providence scene the past year - which includes the likes of artists such as Daily Life, Work/Death, Lazy Magnet, Superior Human Vomit, Mark Lord, and Russian Tsarlag revolving around the excellent Operateque Venue...quite exciting things lie ahead indeed for this quickly congealing world of bands combining noise with both minimal electronics and classical influences! Tonight WIERD welcomes the weekly party debut of MIRRORGATE for a live performance at midnight! Mirrorgate is composer Mario Diaz de León and Doron Sadja's foray into dense, atmospheric soundscapes of expansively baroque guitars and multilayered, feverishly restrained electronics. The band's elusively hybridized sound is evidence of a closing of the gap between the new cold wave/shoegaze informed strain of black metal rearing its head in Very Rare shadowy corners of Brooklyn and France alike the past few years(Alcest, Amesoeurs, Vaura, Liturgy, Anthem) with the raw, blistery electricity of classic minimal synth, and is sure to be a freshly fertile field of sound we've never heard before in the Wierd World!

Tonite WIERD proudly welcomes the long-overdue VReturn of our good friend the terrifyingly lovely PHARMAKON(aka Margaret Chardiet) for live performance at midnight! Margaret's concert in the WIERD World last year stirred up the deeply-seeded and archetypally-entrenched nuggets of seethingly black pathos in us all...born in the bowels of taboo pleasure, up through the stomach, and expelled from the various orifices - only to hover in front of your quivering, frozen face for a 12 minute tighrope walk of intensity - that thing you try to forget, but stares you in the face, obsessing you to the point of...(ugh lets change the fukin subject I can't deal with that it was horrible...). Beyond the wild world of heat-seeking industrial electronics, deriving from the ancient Greek, Pharmakon denotes both a 'remedy' and a 'poison' and as such has forever posed a quandry for translators from Plato to Kant to Nietzsche to Derrida - coming as thus to elusively represent the essence of 'Indeterminacy' itself...the uncontrollable inner nature of all things and meanings in the world...and the love/hate relationship you have with yourself. So come on out and let Margaret purge you of your privately-protected poison, only to leave you realizing it was all you had left, without it you're nothing. VR.

Pharmakon is just one among many of a tightly knit community of brilliant young artists in the highly -regarded RED LIGHT DISTRICT in Far Rockaway Queens, which also includes the likes of Yellow Tears, Throat, Halflings, Hands Rendered Useless, Teeny Bopper, Tension Fields, Cowards, Boytoyz, John Mannion, Vellum, Stroma, Cathode Terror Secretion, and Diaphragm being only the tip of the boiling iceberg...a potent solid scene that has been slowly and carefully forming the past few years, and one which has become in the WIERD's VRopinion one of the true hopes for the future of industrial noise in the US.

This weekend Brandon Stosuy will curate an excellent 'Mirror Me' event at The Red Light featuring performances and work from Peter Sotos, Mark McCoy, Yellow Tears, Pharmakon, Lionel Maunz and DJ Pieter VR. This one is worth the journey to the desolate latenight beach at the end of the world I assure you...the pleasure of the Red Lights await...

Alright everyone, tonite WIERD is VRinordinately excited to present the US debut performance by MUERAN HUMANOS from Buenos Aires, Argentina! Needless to say this is quite a momentous occasion indeed, as it is the first all-South American band ever to play live at the party, hopefully there will be many more in the near future, and perhaps with the coming of the debut LP from Staccato du Mal due for release on March, the prospect of a movement of South American minimal synth isn't too far away. This evening will be the official record release for MH's debut LP on our long time friend Sean Ragon of Cult of Youth's new Blind Prophet Records imprint, and Sean will be on hand along with the lovely Ms. Minimal Syb as guest DJs. The record will be available at the show, and more info can be found here on the band:

Tonite another old friend of the WIERD's Tamaryn will be in town and tonite is her b-day party so slide on in on the Argentinian ice on in and offer her your WIERDest condolences. Tamaryn and Religious to Damn will play Don Hills tomorrow night, Thurs. 2/17, Ms. T says this will be her last NYC show for the rest of 2011, so as always be VRare:

And if you still got a hot shard of that gypsy ice in yr blood, or maybe more likely gallon of Tequilla in yr brain after these two VRagers, on Fri. evening Void Vision and Yellow Tears amongst others will play the rather epic-looking Williamsburg Fashion Weekend blowout party at Glasslands with Katie Rose from Further Reductions spinning, my goodness BK's on fire kiddies get some girlie sleep this afternoon... :)

Tonite WIERD is proud to welcome the NYC debut of our favorite new band from San Francisco The Soft Moon for a live performance at midnight! We've been eagerly awaiting Luis, Justin and co.'s arrival since they opened for Xeno & Oaklander in SF back in March. I highly recommend their self-titled debut LP out now on Captured Trax which we've been spinning to frozen hot death for the past couple months, its a kickass record and one of the darkest cold guitar wave albums in recent memory. My fave track on the LP 'Circles' is closer to the mastery of French Cold Wave legends End of Data's Sahrah or Complot Bronswick's Dark Room's Delights LPs than anythng in recent memory. Check out the video below directed by Ron Robinson. The evening will be extra special as we welcome back the San Fran all-star DJ team of our beloved Goutroy and our long-time VRiend Justin Anastasi whos joined SM's live line-up. For anyone looking for endless hours of jawdropping, chill-inducing entertainment, visit Goutroy's A Viable Commercial Blog also below as the Very Rarities rain down for daze...
